posters for the planet

For the design competition posters for the planet (initiated by the turing foundation), I designed this poster. I was awarded the second prize.

For the design, I reflected on what moves me about the threat of climate change. I arrived at the idea of an uninhabitable world for the adult of tomorrow—the child of today. I put myself in the shoes of that child and designed the poster from that perspective. To get as close as possible to a child’s handwriting, I wrote the letters with my non-dominant right hand.

Jury report: ‘The poignant and disarming honesty of an innocent child—this powerless message about an issue that will shape their life and future—will strike a deep, instinctive chord with many. The message is immediately clear: we, as adults, must take action. The future is not just ours; it belongs to them above all.

This poster excels in concept, personality, recognizability, and humanity. Its unconventional design ensures that it stands out both in public spaces and digital contexts. To move people to action, a powerful message is needed—whether hopeful and optimistic or unsettling and provocative.

Manouk Hasebos has chosen the latter, creating a striking poster that, through its laborious childlike handwriting and disarming drawing, touches people at their core.’
